A bulb whose nozzle doubles as a plug

Where standard bulbs have a slim nozzle, the Nebula Bulb comes with a 3.2 cm diameter nozzle with 10.5 cm insertable length. That's not a nozzle any more, it's plug territory — and that changes both the sensation and who it's actually for.

The wide nozzle: who it's for

This isn't a beginner's model. 3.2 cm is intermediate plug territory. If you've never inserted anything before, the slim nozzle on a standard bulb will be far more comfortable.

If you're already experienced, though, the wide nozzle is genuinely more comfortable: it stays put while filling, it doesn't nip, and the water distributes better.

Some people find it pleasurable in its own right. Let's be honest about it: at this size, prep stops being a purely functional chore. Hueman doesn't hide from that and pitches it as something you enjoy, not just something you use.

The fully flexible silicone makes all the difference next to rigid PVC: the bulb squeezes easily, the nozzle follows your anatomy, and it feels far nicer against the skin.

The nozzle detaches for filling and, more importantly, for cleaning — the weak point of every one-piece bulb.

Phthalate-free, unlike entry-level PVC.

Getting to grips with it

Separate the nozzle from the bulb and fill it with warm water, tested against your wrist.

Reattach the nozzle and check it's clicked firmly into place before inserting.

Lube generously. At 3.2 cm, that's not optional. Water-based lubricant only, this is silicone.

Insert slowly, like a plug — because that's what it is. Squatting or lying on your side both work.

Squeeze gently until the bulb's empty, then remove it and head to the toilet to let it out.

You don't have to go the full 10.5 cm. The length you actually need for a prep douche is much shorter.

Take it apart and rinse straight away, bulb and nozzle separately.

How to douche properly, and how often

Warm water, and nothing else. Body temperature, tested against your wrist. Too hot and you'll burn a mucous membrane that doesn't warn you the way skin does. And above all: no soap, no salt, no shower gel, no additives. Soap strips the rectal lining and causes exactly the irritation you were trying to avoid.

Lube the nozzle before inserting it, with a water-based lubricant. A dry nozzle against a dry membrane is a guaranteed micro-tear.

Go easy on the pressure. The water should go in without forcing anything. If you feel any cramping, stop and let it out.

Two to three rounds, no more. Fill, hold for a few moments, empty out on the toilet, repeat until the water runs clear. Once it's clear, you're done: carrying on doesn't clean anything further, it just irritates.

Stay in the last few centimetres. A prep douche is only about the rectum, not the colon. Going further up calls for different kit and a different technique, and that's not what this is for.

Allow yourself time. Leave thirty minutes to an hour between douching and sex: there's always a little water left over, and it comes out at the worst possible moment if you rush straight in.

Stop immediately if you feel sharp pain, cramping that won't ease off, or notice any blood.

Frequency: the thing nobody tells you

Douching every day isn't cleaner, it's riskier. The rectum is lined with a layer of mucus that acts as a protective barrier. Douching strips it away. Do it daily and that lining never gets the time it needs to rebuild.

What that actually means: a lining stripped of its mucus is more fragile, more prone to micro-tears during penetration, and those micro-tears raise the risk of infections being passed on. Heavy douching is documented as a risk factor, not a protection.

Good practice: before you're meeting someone, not every day as a matter of habit. Space it out as much as you can, use the minimum volume you need, and stop as soon as the water runs clear.

A steady diet does half the work. Enough fibre, enough water, a settled digestion: you need to douche far less when the rest of it is on track.

If you feel the need for a long douching session every single time, or the result never feels right, that's worth a conversation with a doctor rather than reaching for bigger kit.

Cleaning and hygiene for your kit

Rinse it immediately after every use, inside and out, with warm water and a mild soap or toy cleaner. A douching kit that isn't rinsed properly turns into a breeding ground for bacteria, which is the exact opposite of the point of it.

Run clean water through the nozzle until it comes out clear.

Dry it completely before storing, keeping the parts separate since this model comes apart. Leftover moisture is what makes kit go off.

Strictly personal use. Don't lend it out, don't share it, even once it's been cleaned.

Store it somewhere dry, away from dust, and not in a bathroom that's permanently damp.

Check the nozzle before every use: any crack, rough edge or chip and the accessory goes in the bin.

FAQ — Your questions, our answers

Q: Is 3.2 cm workable if I'm a beginner?

A: That's intermediate plug territory, so no, not for a first time. If you're new to douching, go for a model with a slim nozzle. If you're already comfortable with plugs around 3 cm, this one is far more comfortable than a narrow nozzle.

Q: Does the silicone actually make a difference?

A: A big one. The bulb squeezes effortlessly, the nozzle is flexible and follows your anatomy, and there are no phthalates. A rigid PVC model is harder to squeeze and far less pleasant against the skin.

Q: Can I use it every day?

A: It's not advisable. Douching strips away the layer of mucus that protects the rectum, and it needs time to rebuild. Save it for occasions rather than turning it into a daily routine.

Q: Can I add soap or salt?

A: No. Warm water only. Soap strips the lining and causes irritation and burning. Salt adds nothing and throws off the natural balance. Nothing but water at body temperature.
