Powdered lube costs a fraction of a ready-made gel and takes a few minutes to prepare. The catch is the container: you need something to mix, let sit, store and carry it in. This 500 ml bottle is built for exactly that.

Why powdered lube changes the math

The value ratio isn't even close. One packet of powder makes several hundred milliliters. When you're into fisting or just longer sessions, lube use becomes a real expense — powder cuts that down.

You control the texture. This is the other, less-known advantage: more water gives a thin gel, less water gives a thick, long-lasting texture. You adjust it to the activity, which no ready-made gel lets you do.

500 ml is the right size. Enough for a full batch, compact enough to carry around.

How to mix and store it

Mix it directly in the bottle. Pour in the powder, add water following the proportions given by the lube manufacturer, close it up and shake well.

Let it sit. This is the step everyone skips: the powder needs time to fully hydrate. Give it at least a few hours, ideally overnight. A mix used too early stays grainy.

Adjust the texture. Too thick, add a little water and shake. Too thin, use less water next time. Two or three tries and you'll have your ratio.

Use clean water, and a bottle that's been thoroughly washed and dried. Homemade lube is a water-based mix: it can get contaminated like any liquid.

Store it cool and out of the light, and mix reasonable amounts. Homemade lube doesn't have the preservatives of a commercial product: it keeps for days, not months. At the first change in look or smell, toss it and mix a fresh batch.

Wash the bottle between batches, with hot soapy water, and dry it completely.

Cleaning and care

Straps clean on the surface, with a damp cloth and a little mild soap. Don't soak them: water loosens the nylon and lifts the stitching.

Air dry, laid flat, away from any heat source.

The metal parts — rings, buckles, carabiners — get wiped down after use. Leftover moisture will eventually leave marks.

Check regularly the stitching, buckles and rings. On restraint gear, checking it before a session is part of the ritual.

Store it flat, without folding the straps tightly, away from humidity.
